Alcázar, Los Baños de Doña María de Padilla by WildVanilla (Rob) on Flickr.
The “Baths of Lady María de Padilla” are rainwater tanks beneath the Patio del Crucero. The tanks are named after María de Padilla, the mistress of Pedro the Cruel. Supposedly, Pedro fell for María and had her husband killed. María resisted his advances and poured boiling oil over her face to disfigure herself to stop Pedro’s pursuit. She became a nun and moved to a convent afterwards. She is regarded as a symbol of purity in the culture of Seville.

Mirrors by martinturner on Flickr.
Gary Webb’s “Approach Split” in the atrium of 20 Triton Street London. Taken during the London Open House 2014 event. The contemporary piece uses plain, green, blue and gold rectangles of mirror, fixed at different angles over a large wall, with the different colours in no symmetrical order. This not only creates a beautiful unregulated effect, particularly as they reflect the colour of the leather seating, but it comes to life when people move through the space and when the wall climbers lifts, opposite, are in motion. The artwork is actually part of a public art collection that makes up the Regents Place campus.”
